Preparing for Battle

"great melodic work, confusing song"

date: August 23, 2007

Though I love all your works, melodically wise, I find they are brilliant, I also find that each and every one that i've listened to has a great number of instruments going on at the same time, which sometimes was confusing to hear. Like here you have a lot of staccato instruments going off at different times, layered on with other quick staccato strings in the background.

In short, though the song sounds good, it is very difficult to follow through. I could not for the life of me remember the tune after I stopped listened to it, the majority of it just flies through the ear, and out the other, though it is appreciated on its journey out.

I also felt the percussion in this piece was very soft. Barely audible, and a more punishing percussion would have made this piece all the more powerful, though I also realize that adding more short bursts of sounds would make it even more confusing then it already is.

The ending was pretty good this time around, though technically this is 2 seconds over the limit ;).

All in all, great melodic work again, so props to you! Keep up the good fight and keep em coming!

The Unseen War v0.5

"Good vibe, great melodic work, horrible ending."

date: August 23, 2007

This song speaks of a very depressing story. The imagery I get from the title and the tune is that of perhaps war of assassins. Deaths and battles fought from all seeing eyes. In dark corners of existence, where demon kills demon.

A truly grand image, the more I dwell on it, the more I am fascinated by it!

The song sounds very full, and very powerful, yet the end just cuts off. It is not useful in loop form at all, like your previous song I reviewed, it is sadly rather useless like this. I will have to check out the full version of this song when I get the chance.

All in all, a good song, great melodic work, horrible ending, decent samples! Keep up the good fight and keep em coming!

Where Will You Stand v0.5

"Great vibe, flow, melodic work. Doesn't loop"

date: August 21, 2007

hello afliXion. I've patiently reviewed and reviewed, and looking forward to reviewing yours :D!

I absolutely love your arrangements, your flow and melodic work. I feel there is a very large level of power in them, a great sense of energy, and with some high end samples, I am fairly sure you would have taken the cake home. Even with what you are using, I see you as a real threat, and it gives me great joy to be competing with you.

The ending doesn't loop that well, kinda cuts off, which is a shame really. A good loop for this piece would have done wonders for it.

despite the lack of loop, the song still flows well from start to finish.

I don't rightly have much to say, I adore your submissions, keep up the good fight and keep em coming! I promise i'll try to make the other reviews more detailed!

Victory is ours

"Solid track, great feeling, too repetetive"

submission: Victory is ours
date: August 21, 2007

A defiant and epic opening for sure!

The first thing that caught my attention was those tremelo strings you have. At first I felt they were very effective in what they did, but with time I felt they were over used. Tremelo strings are very effective but in short doses. To use them to this degree is detrimental to the songs entertainment value.

The song is also incredibly repetetive. There seemed to be so much potential at the beginning, as if the song could jump up and boom any second, yet sadly it did not. at 1:32 ish or so, the song loops perfectly, so hats off to that.

There is a good mix of sounds and background noise to this song.

So all in all I felt this song had a huge amount of potential. Picking up on the percussion, throwing in slight variations of the strings, even minor things would have helped. A good track, but far too repetetive. Keep up the good fight and keep em coming!

Mac7 Trance-Piration loop

"No CC vibe, good flow, too gated."

date: August 21, 2007

This piece, is i'd say worse then the other submission in the sense I am not getting any kind of CC theme from this. It sounds very much like any other trance piece I've heard. And that gated pad you have going on throughout the entire song gets really tiresome to listen to really fast. It gave me a head ache after listening to it only for roughly 8 minutes.

The song loops perfectly, so again, good stuff on that department.

I think you have way too many things gated in this song. I think EVERYTHING i've heard on this song is gated, save the percussion, which is also the same as the other submission.

A good Trance piece, but definitely not CC.

In any case, keep up the good fight and keep em coming!

Mac7 Hope loop

"pro quality, great vibe and sounds, nothing new."

submission: Mac7 Hope loop
date: August 21, 2007

I can't believe nobody reviewed this song! It's a rather powerful and rugged loop! There is a lot of incredible sounds in this mix, though I must confess that I do not get the feel of "hope" from this piece. I do get a lively energy, and once 0:56 comes in I get SOME feeling of "hope" and wonder, and though that is a rather substantial part of the image, I feel overall the song does not support the idea.

It is definitely not anything ground breaking or new. It is pro, but nothing that made me nod my head and say "I've never heard that before"

the percussion was simple, standard, and effective. Didn't move much, didn't really need to, it did what it was intended to do.

The song loops perfectly, a definite plus!

The level of panning you had shortly after the minute mark was borderline excessive in my opinion. It didn't break the flow, it helped, but any more and I felt it would be detrimental to the song's entertainment value. I'm not a great fan of panning period really so take that criticism with a grain of salt.

All in all a great track, so hats off to you, good luck on the contest! I'll see you on the battle field! Keep up the good fight and keep em coming!

O- Emotion [Truth] (Loop)

"Good vibe, steady flow, perfect loop."

date: August 21, 2007

Hey HotDecemberOcon... I mean Sex.

This song loops perfectly, that is the first thing I noticed as I listened to it in the background while doing some reading.

I didn't find it that depressing to be honest. Yes there were some feelings of sadness, but really it wasn't as severe as Dorkside here makes it sound.

I really liked what you did with those sliding synths. You've always been good with them, good to hear you go at it again. I did find the percussion a little strange sounding. The build up snare sounded perfect no doubt, but just something about the percussion after that kinda bothered me... nothing too major of course.

Good steady beat, melodically it doesn't change that much, but thats an absolute must in an ambient loop. A good mix of sound effects and background noise, really helps bring it along.

All in all a pretty slick track. I remember still where you and I came from Ocon, we sure did come a long way, and this song proves it. Keep up the good fight and keep em coming!

A Stealthy Move

"broken loop? smooth flow, good imagery"

submission: A Stealthy Move
date: August 21, 2007

hey Rocktee mai buuuuuddddaaaaay!

This is a rather strange song, I get sneaky, I get movement, but often in the song I feel that image changes all together. Like that ritardo (correct term?) you have at 0:22, and then it goes into that slower melody, that initially completely changed the mood of sneakyness, that is until those quick staccato sounds came in.

And i'll be honest, i'm not seeing too much... sneakyness in Castle Crashers. I mean you don't make wicked weapons to sheathe them *though I totally would, wicked looking weapons are wicked looking weapons*

The loop also sounds broken. Maybe the exportation didn't work, but the end definitely sounds like it was cut, doesn't loop well.

All in all, it was a good submission, it didn't captivate me, then again I don't think it was aiming to, I can recognize a good piece of work when I hear it, and this is one of them, so best of luck to you my good sir on the competition, keep up the good fight and keep em coming!

Author's Response:

yo yo yo
lol

After that ritard, it is a bit of a different feeling ,but I still get the sneaky vibe there, if not more so than the beginning theme.

I think I fixed the loop. You can never be sure though >:[ Oh well.

Anyways in Castle Crashers I was just hoping there might be some kind of sneaking. I mean, come on. THere has to be some.

Glad you liked it. It's fine that this didn't win, my Batalla placing up there is fine :D
And good job YOU getting up dere.

Thanks for teh review,

Rocky

Oleo-in funk

"Very slick, smooth piece!"

submission: Oleo-in funk
date: August 21, 2007

It really is a shame that the masses here neglect, even get out of their way to degrade songs of this caliber.

I have never tried composing a funk song, nor even a jazz one, yet I do realize the level of skill it takes to build a solid tune like this, so even if I don't find much to say, I do tip my hat off to you. A song well made, is a song well made, without a doubt that is universally true.

I had this song playing on my speakers as I did some work around the house, it really helped fill in the silence, and the song loops incredibly. Maybe it was my own fault for not directly paying attention to the exact details, but I don't remember going "And from the top!" as the song started again.

Slick smooth saxaphone riffs you got going on, steady simple bass to underline it all. As I sit down to write this review, I see that the song does have a punch ending, which still serves the listener well so thats all good.

I'm afraid I don't have much else to comment on Soro. I don't think I could give criticism to make it better, but I did enjoy it, so hats off to you! Keep up the good fight and keep em coming!

Author's Response:

Seasons (I Will Catch You)

"A great song, though a bit standard."

date: August 20, 2007

Why do these live voice recording songs never get any reviews. This is the third song i've found today that use live voices that have no reviews. it's ridiculous as live recording is far more difficult then electronically producing.

In any case, lets get onto the review.

These friends of yours are incredible, I really like how the voice flows, and the voice is quite crisp. There is... something thats off with the song though. Maybe I am wrong, because I don't listen to nearly as much of this genre as I should, but around 1:21-1:34 seems a bit off...

could be me, i'm just saying.

But leaving that aside the lyrics are a tad standard, there weren't sentences that really made me nod my head and really let it sink in. I am a firm believer that lyrics are not merely words and a story that flows melodically with the song, but invoking, powerful lyrics can make or break the career of any musician. With thousands of musicians going into the business every year, you have to make damn sure the tools you use are over the standard.

All in all, it was an enjoyable song Bosa, but it was quite standard. I have heard many songs like this before. Still, I have to give you props, the song is produced in a great way, professional style.

Keep up the good fight and keep em coming!
