Good for you man. AS long as people listen to and like the sound of your music, there will always be some willing to pay for it. I know I've heard free tracks that I would happily pay for before.

true, but I want to try one last time, to keep it all free. I don't produce main stream music which yields a high audience count. I also feel a kind of kin spirit with those who share appreciation in game music and the styles it branches into it. For the curious and the regular fans of this type of music I want to give them this stuff free.

I've always felt a lot of sympathy for composers in the casual gaming scene. I can see the sense in some people thinking there shouldn't be a licensing fee for music that the composer just decided to make. But music created *for* the game should definitely yield some profit. And that's even the developers/artists a lot of the time. The fans.. Jesus.. they think Flash games and animations just flop out of an author when they're bored one night.

Anyhow, I wish you the best. And shit, I just realized you live in Toronto too. Fancy that! Toronto is the city with the most NG tankies :P

that's crazy man! Coolio's from Toronto as well. I've met a LOT of creative people on this site from Toronto. I often wonder if I might have seen somebody from NG on the subway.

As for the licensing issue, while it holds merit the principle applies to games as well. Flash games are often licensed to sites on a non exclusive basis that yields the owner that more for their work. Let's face it, the only way to be rich as an artist is to build up a beefy source of royalties which stem from licensing.

In fact, even buying a game from the shelf is in theory, licensing. You are buying the right to install and play that game on your computer. In the fine print EULA, which many often disregard it will often claim that you are only allowed to install the game up to 3 computers you own. EA is aggressively trying to make their games DRM protected to hell so you can only play the game if you buy a license for it and your pc is constantly connected to the internet so they can check. They tried this on Spore and that by itself killed that game.

Anyways, I could rant about this forever. I agree that like TV, it's very easy to forget the costs and time that was put into enjoying these shows we watch for half an hour and never think of again.

I didn't think people tried to profit of NG, I thought people had day jobs or what ever and NG was a hobby. If music is your career then thats cool, I didn't know you were doing this for profit, I thought you did your job, and thought of shit in your free time and then uploaded it here for free. I don't know anything about music making as a business but are Ziddu and Uploading your only profit sources?

well I could very well get a day job, but my passion is with music. I would much rather earn 1/3 of a day job and go with music then I would flipping burgers and earning 2-3k a month easy.

no these two are not my only stream of income, but it is the only way I could think of to keep the files free for everybody. If this doesn't work I will be forced to take all the files down and put them on licensing sites to keep generating money on the side. I don't expect to make thousands off this but it's better then 0. I can't do 0 right now.

And you know every game you played that has a site logo? ArmorGames, Kongregate, often Newgrounds? Those games are sponsored. Very few games nowadays are released with no compensation.

I knew things were sponsered, but I was unaware there was significant if any money involved with sponsorship. I am not much on the flash scene, I know about ad revs and that stuff, I know Armor Games has employees and they get paid but I didn't know some of the more famous collabs here that say they are sponsored by NG got money.

Got any kind of paypal account or something? I don't like third parties.

I do, but I don't want to involve it as i'm seeing if I can turn listens and song downloads to a somewhat profitable system. I highly appreciate the sentiment, don't worry at the end of the day no music files should be kept off NG, will all end up here eventually.

Welcome to the cruel, harsh world of buisness, bro. Nowadays, people can hardly give to the community for free without filing bankrupcy altogether. And all the other guys sacrifice quality for quantity, just so they can earn a quick buck. It's either you give up or sell out. I understand your choices and I wish you the best of work.

P.S. When you begin working for big-wig video game companies and movie directors, don't forget how good ol' NEWGROUNDS helped you get started! PLEASE, don't forget where your fans are!

quite true. I don't intend to produce crap just to grab a quick buck from it, but every month it gets harder and harder to keep giving.

People have already told me i'm on the last stretch of my journey, here's to proving them wrong.

I could never forget what NG has done for me. That is the only reason i'm fighting so hard now to keep giving here.

We are in this for the moolah, but I dunno how much since PO3 is ads only.
It's a beautiful ride at least.

hey man, I figure we should all do SOMETHING for charity :P. I didn't tag onto the PO3 events with the intention of getting rich off them.

Damn, major downer eh? More for you than the listener I assume though. I'll make sure to download all your stuff to keep some form of money coming in hah.

As suggested above, you should link a paypal account

well I would hope the listener gets to enjoy the tracks. I don't really want people downloading the tracks without an inkling of a chance they'll enjoy it.

I will download those links. Because you are a brilliant musician, Maestro, and your hardships make me sad.

much appreciated mate. It's part of life the struggle. Won't be uphill forever.

Best of luck, hopefully a big game company will want you to make make music for them ^>^. YOULL BE SWIMMIN DOUGH HEAR ME? SWIMMIN!

I sure hope I'm not swimming in a pool of pennies and quarters and dimes and stuff. Swimming in metal would be most painful...

:c

Don't get me wrong you're still my favorite composer on this site, but I barely have any room on my computer to keep that much new stuff :(

Meh, I wouldn't buy your music.

well can't please everybody. Not going to pretend the tracks are for everybody.

that's rough

I'll download just because I want to help such awesome classical music master.
I love your musics man ;)

I remember you... You did the music for that game I played...
You're not getting any money though, everyone else has money problems too >_>

and I know how to solve mine, I'm just trying to resolve it another way.

hey man I feel you. Have you ever considered releasing download-able albums?

I purchased a few that I've liked and would definitely do the same for you.

I'll be happy with that as long as you keep all of the songs you already have here up. A person with talent and skill like yours deserves to be payed for his efforts.
Out of curiosity, will you still make custom tracks for people's games and such?

absolutely. I don't think I could ever stop making custom work, I will just have to ask for a cut of the sponsorship.

looks like its gone now

I'm sad now. =P

We love you Maestro! XD

wake me up before you go go
